Albana

Documented in Romagna since 1200, albana probably has an even longer history, at least from the early Middle Ages. This is almost certainly the wine, white and sweet, loved by Galla Placidia, who apparently liked to "drink it in gold" it was so good. Vigorous and quite late, it is vinified dry between Bologna, Forlì and Faenza, and in this guise reveals a straw-yellow colour with hints of gold at times, a taut and fruity bouquet, particularly fresh and with an almond finish. An excellent spumante, but above all for drying, in the botrytised version it is one of the best in Italy for its type. It gives life to the Romagna Albana DOCG and is rich, taut, concentrated, mineral, with enveloping, persuasive, caramelised notes.
