Sequillo Cellars

Sequillo Cellars and The Sadie Family are the two wineries run by widely-acclaimed Eben Sadie in the Swartland region of South Africa.

The Sequillo project began in 2003 with the aim of highlighting two limited production wines, a white and a red, both carefully blended using grape varieties frequently planted in the Mediterranean and Southern Rhône, but perfectly suited to the hot climate and various soils of granite, slate, gravel and clay found locally.

The emphasis is on letting the wines express their sense of place in all its diversity and thereby truly reflect their terroir, revealing any nuances of minerality and origin. Lying all over the Swartland region, the vineyards are not irrigated and the conservation of vines is taken seriously amidst a general respect shown for the environment. Fermentation takes place naturally, additives are avoided, and there is a distinct lack of new wood used in ageing. The result of this thoughtful endeavour, the fruit of years of research and experience by Eben Sadie, is a pair of original, highly-regarded wines that have made their mark within South Africa and internationally.
