The wine

Pleasant, fresh, juicy and meaty: that broadly describes the Puente del Ea single varietal, a fine Tempranillo, a fine Rioja, a wine to discover and enjoy to the full, whose quality came as no surprise when we found out after the tasting that the person in charge of production at this Sajazarra winery is none other than Basilio Izquierdo, one of the Rioja's most prestigious oenologists. Puente del Ea starts by taking us by surprise due to its high fruit content and meaty texture; we are immediately under the impression that we are dealing with a young wine, yet undoubtedly that roundness and balance can only be achieved with some careful ageing: twelve months in oak barrels and six months resting in bottle. It is, as we often say, a fine example of a fruit-forward wine with perfectly integrated oak.

Its colour is intense, befitting that fruit intensity resulting from lengthy pumping over, and its instantaneous aromas are of fresh fruit, accompanied by spicy notes, sweet touches and a very interesting rustic freshness. It is elegant, fruit-forward and lively, and the meatiness that we are soon to encounter on the palate is already there on the nose; the wine has lots of appeal.

Puente del Ea has a smooth entry and is medium-bodied, which makes it an easy, approachable wine. It exhibits a hint of sweetness, well-integrated acidity, smooth tannins and some delicate notes of Provençal herbs, of black pepper and a trace of chocolate; a fresh texture with a warm background that invitingly prompts another glass.
