The wine

Bodegas Naia is located in La Seca, a Rueda DO village virtually covered in vines. Here, the strong contrasts in day and night temperatures enable the production of wines that are very well-balanced, structured and full of character, combining continental freshness with the scorching heat of the Castilian plains. Right from the beginning, the winery has been making great white wines from the Verdejo variety indigenous clone and has succeeded in obtaining a wine which according to many critics is one of Spain's best whites: Naiades.

Naiades is made using the Verdejo that comes from the estate's oldest vines, some pre-phylloxera stock, located in small parcels with sandy-clay terrain strewn with pebbles and lying at 800 metres above sea level. After having been harvested by hand, the destalked grapes ferment in French oak barrels of differing formats, with medium toast and aged between 1 and 3 years old. The wine subsequently matures in them for 7 months on its lees, which endows it with a special character and unctuousness, but also a good ageing potential which will enable us to enjoy it in the coming 3-5 years.

Naiades is a wine that shuns the superfluous fruit sometimes found embellishing more ordinary Verdejos and elegantly combines ageing notes with aromas of ripe fruit in the background. Sweet spices such as vanilla and hints of toasted bread enhance the complexity of some marvellous fruit reminiscent of dried apricots or peaches and quince. On the palate it has a silky feel and tremendous flavour. Its well-defined acidity and the minerality resulting directly from the vineyard balance the volume and character of this great wine which should not be missed.
