The wine

Château Dalem is one of the best wines from Fronsac, known for its maturity, complexity and its fine spicy character. A wine for laying down, opulent and meaty, elegant, with a velvety mouthfeel and a solid tannic structure, typical of the wines from this appellation on the right bank.

Wine critics reviewsReviews by Parker, Jancis Robinson, and Suckling

A blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, the 2018 Dalem has a deep garnet-purple color and compelling notes of blackberry preserves, wild blueberries and ripe, juicy black plums, with hints of dark chocolate, licorice and black olives. The full-bodied palate (15% alcohol) appears bright and fresh with the lively black fruits framed by soft, velvety tannins, finishing long and savory. Nicely done!

Now this does have some welcome freshness on the nose – despite the high alcohol level. Like its stablemate Ch de la Huste, the tannins are a little dry and rustic but overall this has enough fruit in the middle to come right in the end, though a little patience is probably required.

— Jancis Robinson (18/01/2021)JancisRobinson.com Vintage 2018 - 16 JANCIS ROBINSON

An elegant nose of flowers, plums, red berries and cedar. It’s medium-bodied with silky texture. Shows balance and finesse, supported by polished tannins and a pretty drive. Lovely all around. Try after 2023.
