The wine

A coupage of Tinta Fina (90%), Cabernet Sauvignon (5%) and Merlot (5%) in which each variety is produced separately and in fact the Tinta Fina goes into the tanks whole, in the traditional carbonic maceration style. Before being bottled the wine is clarified naturally by means of two rackings and concludes by being rounded off in bottle for at least three months in order to attain greater refinement.

Valtravieso Joven is a lovely warm wine which successfully upholds the features characteristic of its type: fruit intensity, body and freshness. An intense cherry-red colour with violet tones on the rim, on the nose it reveals aromas of fresh grapes, red berry fruits especially of jam (raspberry, redcurrants and mulberries), liquorice stick and finishing with white flowers. On the palate, it appears oily and slightly sweet, but with good acidity. Thanks to careful production methods, it manages to procure very smooth, sweet tannins which lengthen considerably its passage through the mouth.

However, it wasn't until the González Beteré family acquired the property in 2002 that Valtravieso's wines really got underway. The Valtravieso philosophy is based on the...
