Review:

PSI is Peter Sisseck's most recent project and one where his intention has been to bring out a fresher, fruit-foremost wine profile, that is to say, without the concentration that characterises his coveted Flor de Pingus and Pingus. This wine comes much closer to the actual fruit juices, especially red fruits such as strawberries and raspberries, yet cranberries are there too. A juicy wine, intense on the palate, with spicy notes and very subtle hints of oak-ageing, delicious and refreshing.

PSI is made using grapes sourced from vine-growers with whom the winery has strict working agreements, from balanced vineyards, planted with bush vines on soils that are different in composition and averaging 30 years old in age. Maceration takes place in concrete tanks in order to obtain the maximum possible from the fruit aromas; and ageing occurs in concrete tanks, in large oak vats and in not-new barrels.

Opening the bottle half an hour before serving is recommended.

Summary of Peter Sisseck's evaluation of the 2015 vintage

The 2015 vintage year in the Ribera del Duero has been marked by a warm dry summer which created favourable conditions for a rapid ripening of the grapes, and consequently, an early harvest with a very low yield. The wines have medium-high alcohol content, low to medium acidity and a good aromatic expression, ripe fruit, despite having been harvested in September.

The year started off with normal water reserves which were maintained throughout the whole winter, however spring was particularly dry and rain didn't put in an appearance until the flowering period in the middle of June. The month of July was especially hot and the rest of the summer passed as usual as regards temperatures and rainfall, with some weak and sporadic storms. Following on was a rather atypical month of September, without the day-night temperature variation normal for the Ribera del Duero region, which required the detailed tracking of grape ripening in order to determine the precise moment for the harvesting of each parcel; mainly because in the younger vineyards and in the parcels less prone to water retention, the vines slowed down the maturation process in order to protect themselves from hydric stress. On September 21st a start was made on the harvest in a year that will be remembered for having given a lot of work but one which will surely give considerable satisfaction too.

The Pingus parcels are well-adapted to the region's extreme climate and the vintage has been able to refine itself elegantly, and the Flor de Pingus produced suggests freshness and lusciousness. As regards PSI, the atrocious weather conditions that occurred in some of the towns which collaborate in the making of this wine compelled us to select certain parcels, but it's precisely thanks to the diversity of vine growers involved in this project that there was also a satisfactory result.
