Bajondillo is an absolute delight; a wine with a most attractive profile, Mediterranean, revealing superb acidity, very flavoursome and extremely fresh on the palate. Modest it may be, yet splendid quality, indeed very few wines at this price offer so much. It is made from the fruit of middle-aged vines, between 15 and 40 years old, in vineyards cultivated organically and with very little intervention in the whole process. It is an authentic, honest, extremely juicy wine — the sort that starts off as a very pleasant surprise and which continues being thoroughly enjoyable right to the last drop, and at an incredible price!
It is very clean in the glass, a gleaming ruby-red colour, and intense and complex aromatically. Modest, but not unsophisticated, this is a great little wine and deserves to be treated as such: try decanting it or opening the bottle to give it time to breathe, and you'll see how generous it becomes. On the nose you'll find a fruit juice mélange, with red fruits... and mango! Aromas like these don't surprise us from a variety such as the Garnacha (75% of its coupage) but we thought the Syrah might have been the source. Not at all. Bajondillo is a Garnacha, both a Mediterranean and a Continental Garnacha, with considerable complexity: woodland herbs, the scent of roses and violets, liquorice, tart strawberry, orange peel and damp undergrowth notes. Seductive; just as we said earlier, an absolute delight.
On the palate, there's an explosion of tart strawberry, and intensity too, with a very good balance between sweetness and acidity which makes for extremely pleasurable and easy drinking. It teams up well with various dishes, however its own company is the one that best suits it. It has a lively feel yet with plenty of body, structure and sinew; the tannins are evident but sweet and fleshy. A wine for drinking with your eyes closed... excellent!

Great every day light red.
Easy drinking, light on the spice, with enough character to hold up to countless different dishes as well as being ultra quaffable on its own. Current 'house' fave.

Bodegas Jiménez-Landi
Bodegas Jiménez-Landi is a family-run enterprise which has arisen out of passion for the land and vines, and inherited the tradition both of former generations and also the actual area in which it is located, Méntrida, a town near the Sierra de Gredos mountains whose wine-growing past dates back to the 12th Century.
The winery building is set inside an old manor house built in the 16th Century, within which they have managed to preserve a cave where their forebears used to...
