With a more accessible profile than the grandiose Pingus, Flor de Pingus comes forward as a very interesting option for discovering why the wines of Peter Sisseck have caused such a stir on the wine-making scene, year after year reaching prices beyond the reach of all but a few.

Summary of Peter Sisseck's evaluation of the 2014 vintage

Generally speaking, 2014 has been a year when the vineyards have operated with hardly any stoppages at all in the vegetative cycle. The young vines have yielded a good crop even though the fruit matured later on, often coinciding with the second rainy period. The old and balanced vines have produced grapes of excellent quality, ripening during the last week of September.

The Pingus, Barroso and San Cristóbal vineyards unfortunately suffered a hailstorm on July 2nd, which required some painstaking work to be carried out in the vineyards throughout the summer and autumn, but this enabled concentration in the grapes to regain balance. The harvest came early which allowed the sought-after freshness to be attained, avoiding over-extraction, and the vinification process culminated in a magnificent wine. The different wines which come together to make Pingus have matured in a complex ensemble of previously used barrels of various ages, combined with time spent in tank so that we could get a feel for the characteristics of each one, and this has resulted in a harmonious blend of great excellence. Without a shadow of a doubt, we are looking at an exceptional vintage in the short history of Dominio de Pingus.

The Flor de Pingus vineyards have been less affected by the inclement weather and have also brought forth a wine of great freshness, with an intense yet light fruitiness, which will be recorded as one of the great wines in the Dominio de Pingus annals of history.

Together with his uncle, Peter-Vinding-Diers, he established what came to be known as Bordeaux's 'new wave'...
