Wine from Arabako Txakolina

Arabako Txakolina or Txakoli de Álava is made in the northwestern part of the province. There, the clayey and gravelly soils are influenced by the Cantabrian Sea, which defines a climate quite similar to that of the neighbouring DO Bizkaiko Txakolina. The greatest threat to the grapes is the risk of spring frosts.

Arabako Txakolina

Arabako Txakolina or Txakoli de Álava is made in the northwestern part of the province. There, the clayey and gravelly soils are influenced by the Cantabrian Sea, which defines a climate quite similar to that of the neighbouring DO Bizkaiko Txakolina. The greatest threat to the grapes is the risk of spring frosts.

Its wines, like its climate, are fresh and have a herbaceous and fruity character. They have a slightly higher alcohol content than those of the other two Txakoli appellations and are slightly less acidic.

Grape Varieties

The most common variety of the balanced white wines of the DO Arabako Txakolina is the Hondarrabi Zuri, whose vines cover 80% of the vineyard.

Petit Manseng, Petit Corbu and Gross Manseng participate in some blends in a testimonial way.
