Herència Altés La Serra Blanc is one of the star wines of the young winery Herència Altés. White Grenache grapes come from one of the best vineyards that the firm has in the clay and limestone soils of Gandesa. It is made only in the best vintages and exclusively from old white grenache strains. Proud of its Mediterranean character, but also of the thermal contrasts and low rainfall, La Serra manages to be a concentrated and fresh wine on par. The farm that gives it its name, consists of just over 21 hectares and has been planted for the most part since 1954. The yields are very low and respect for the absolute environment, non-negotiable for those responsible for the project.
Thus, when we see the wine move in the glass, it is easy to understand the reason for its density. His nose instantly confirms the budget in sight, with the concentrated fruit and wood melting naturally, while the memories of toasted bread loom with discretion. The wine matured in Austrian oak fudres that left a trail of spices and smoke in the wine; the work with the lees made it creamy and smooth on the palate. The good use of wood did not at all hinder the floral and scented expression of this wonderful garnacha, which adds the usual roundness of the variety with the elegant tannins of the limestone soils. The detractors of the great white grape of the Terra Alta could think of an excessive evolution of the wine, but nothing is further from reality, the feeling of freshness remains intact; they feel wild fennel and licorice, plums and yellow apples, as well as a comforting memory of beeswax. Its acidity measure and its slight bitterness help to transport the sensation of minerality throughout the palate and ensure a difficult aftertaste. It seems obvious to think that it will have a splendid future and that it will not cease to gain complexity for a long time.

Very fine
This is a very well made and elegant wine with a lovely light gold colour, almost transparent. There’s a whiff of oak on the nose along with peach skin and a waxy/honey note typical of Garnacha Blanca. On the palate, it has a silky mouthfeel, a little more oak, but in balance, along with stone fruit. Medium length finish. Rather more modern styled than some of the classic Catalan Garnacha Blancas, this has a broad appeal and will be liked by anyone who enjoys Californian chardonnay or Fume blanc as well as lovers of quality Spanish wines.

Ein weißer Vorzeige-Garnatxa
Der „La Serra Blanc“ von „Hèrencia Altés“ gehört in der feinen Welt der weißen Garnatxas aus „Terra Alta“, vor allem mit dem Jahrgang 2015, zweifellos zur absoluten Spitze. Hier vereint sich Vieles zum Positiven: Eine traumhafte Einzellage (La Serra) zwischen Batea und Gandesa; Rebstöcke, die zu Beginn des letzten Jahrhunderts kurz nach der alles vernichtenden Phylloxera gepflanzt wurden und die jedes Jahr nur noch jeweils eine Handvoll Trauben hervorbringen; sorgfältigste Verarbeitung im Keller (noch in Batea), fermentiert und für 10 Monate gelagert in einem 1500l Eichenfuder, dann auf 1900 Flaschen limitiert abgefüllt. Das Ergebnis überzeugt. Glänzendes Strohgelb im Glas; verblüffend warme Noten in der Nase, schmeichelnde Honigmelone, reife Zitrusfrüchte, florale Nuancen; vielschichtig am Gaumen, trotz nur mildem Säurespiel frisch und fruchtig, im Vordergrund Fenchel, Anis und Heu, reife Früchte, wunderbar zurückhaltendes Holz, angenehme schmelzige Textur, breit, saftig, salzig und mineralisch; komplexer, leicht bitterer Nachklang. Ein Flaggschiff und ein weißer Vorzeige-Garnatxa.
