The wine

Castro de Valtuille Godello is a white wine produced by the Castro Ventosa winery, located in the wine region of Bierzo, in the province of León, Spain. This wine is mainly made from the Godello grape variety, a native grape variety of the region that has gained recognition for the quality of its white wines.

Castro de Valtuille Godello is characterised by its freshness, elegance and fruity expression. It has a pale yellow colour with greenish glints and offers intense aromas of white fruits, citrus and white flowers. On the palate, it is balanced, with a refreshing acidity and a structure that gives it a good persistence on the palate.

This wine reflects the unique character of the Bierzo terroir, with slate soils and Atlantic climate that contribute to the authentic expression of the Godello variety. It is a versatile wine that pairs well with a variety of dishes, from fish and seafood to salads and poultry dishes.

The Castro de Valtuille Godello is an excellent example of the potential of the Godello variety in Bierzo and represents the passion and commitment of the Castro Ventosa winery to produce high quality wines that reflect the identity of their terroir.

Wine critics reviewsReviews by Parker

The white 2019 El Castro de Valtuille Godello comes from three plots in some of the cooler vineyards in the village of Valtuille and Villafranca del Bierzo. It had a 24-hour maceration and then fermented in 225-, 500- and 700-liter oak barrels, where it matured with indigenous yeasts (like all whites here) for one year with the lees, topping the barrels up and without any bâtonnage. It was taken away from the barrels just before the following harvest. It's balanced and fresh, with 12.5% alcohol and a velvety sensation on the palate. 5,000 bottles produced. There will be more in 2021 because they bought a large 1.2-hectare plot of Godello in the village. It was bottled in October/November.
