The wine

A terroir Cabernet with plenty of character, an elegant bouquet of blackcurrant buds and very persistent, originating from one of the estate’s highest altitude parcels (750 m), on calcareous clay soils, with a high percentage of sand, and surrounded by pine forests which protect the vineyards from the winds.

Matured for 17 months in French oak barrels.

Wine critics reviewsReviews by Parker

The pure Cabernet 2018 Pago Valdebellón reflects a cooler year with more availability of water in a powerful way, with good ripeness and more freshness. The grapes were picked between the 20th and 22nd of October and fermented with 12 days of maceration. It matured in new French oak barrels for 16 months. This is serious, deep and complex, with a varietal profile adapted to the place, keeping the herbal notes but with good ripeness (14.5% alcohol), peppery and developing notes of paprika, more serious, less fruit-driven. It has good grip, with fine tannins and subtleness and elegance. Clean and elegant, with some incipient complexity. 5,150 bottles were filled in May 2020.

Abadía Retuerta

Abadía Retuerta

Bodega Abadía Retuerta’s name comes from two words that define and describe the land: Ribula Torta which means a “winding river bank”. The first written reference alluding to the importance of the Abadía vineyards dates back to the 17th Century, and shows that the wine sold by the monks who were living there dominated the market in Valladolid, Castile’s largest city. More recently, in the 1970s, the former owners pulled up the vines growing...
