Review:

With a more accessible profile than the grandiose Pingus, Flor de Pingus comes forward as a very interesting option for discovering why the wines of Peter Sisseck have caused such a stir on the wine-making scene, year after year reaching prices beyond the reach of all but a few.

Summary of Peter Sisseck's evaluation of the 2013 vintage

The key element of this year has been an abnormally cold spell between May and June and the consequences which have followed on as a result: a delayed vegetative cycle and a reduced number of clusters for a uniform maturity to occur.

If the summer months were relatively hot, with the arrival of September the temperatures went down noticeably and the typical storms put in an appearance. During the first fortnight of October, a fine Cantabrian rain favoured a rise in the temperature and the germination of Botrytis spores in the more vulnerable vineyards, but our loose clusters, with small berries, firm skins and properly managed ventilation, resisted these spores perfectly.

Consequently, thanks to the fine quality of the grapes in the vineyards, to a meticulous harvest and some deft sorting on the selection tables, we are able to say that, despite the initial delay, we have achieved a good balance between the clusters and their foliage and, in turn, constant maturity of the grapes.
